The word "gematria" comes from the Greek word "geōmetriā" from which our English word "geometry" is derived.

Greek Gematria Peoples of practically all ancient languages used the letters of their alphabets as numbers also. Gematria is the use of these duel purpose alphabets for calculating the numerical values of words, and phrases to find identical numerical values that bear some relation to each other, or bear some relation to the number itself. Examples of this are Koine Greek (right), and Hebrew (below) the languages. Hebrew (OT) and Greek (NT) were used to write the Word of God.

About 30 years when studying Revelation 13, Dr. J. R. Church considered making an English Gematria. By simulating the numbering system of the most ancient language, Sumerian, Dr. Church developed an English Gematria System based on the number six. By assigning numbers to the English alphabet in increments of six Dr. Church came up with an English Gematria System (i.e. A = 6, B = 12, C = 18, D = 24, E = 30, etc).

The Sumerian civilization is the most ancient post Flood civilization, and their system of counting is the oldest known. The numbering system of ancient Sumer was based on the numbers six and ten. The original Sumerian numbering system was written in cuneiform script with cones and circles which followed this formula: A single item was represented by a small cone shaped mark (1). Ten cones equaled one small circle (10 x 1 = 10). Six small circles equaled one big cone (6 x 10 = 60). Ten big cones equaled a big cone with a circle inside it (60 x 10 = 600). Six of those cones with a circle inside was equal to a large circle (600 x 6 = 3600). Ten large circles was signified with a large circle with a small circle inside (3600 x 10 = 36,000). Therefore, a large circle with a small one inside is equaled to 36,000 individual units (10 x 6 x 10 x 6 x 10).

Units of measure in ancient Sumer: The day was divided into six watches of four hours each. Length was measured by the Gi (Reed) which was 6 Cubits (about 10 Feet). Capacity was measured by the Gin (0.025 Liters), the Sila (1.5 Liters) which was 60 Gin, the Ban which was 6 Sila, and the Barig which was 6 Ban. Weights were measured by the Gin (about 1/4 ounce), the Mana (about 1 Pound) which was 60 Gins, and the Gu which was 60 Manas.

The Sumerian system can still be seen in our use of the foot (12 inches = 2 x 6) and yard (36 inches = 6 x 6), in our 24 hour clock (24 = 4 x 6), and our sexagesimal measurement of time (60 seconds, 60 minuets).

Greek Gematria It stands to reason that if the most ancient known language used their numbers for counting and used 6 as a base number, that in similar manner the final universal language, English, might be used in this counting also. This indeed does seem to be the case when the results of using Dr. Church's English Gamatria are examined. Therefore, we are providing an English Gamatria Calculator for you to test our astounding findings.

The proper use of the calculator is to find Scriptural correlation between the words and phrases, and their numerical values. When using the calculator you should ask yourself, "What is the Scriptural significance of my words?" For example, in the Koine Greek of the New Testament the number of the Lord's name, JESUS, totals 888; while the is Antichrist's number is 666. If there is no Scriptural significance then the calculation is of no significance. In the Bible 6 is the number of man, and 8 is the number of new beginnings. We recommend the book, Number in Scripture: Its Supernatural Design and Spiritual Significance by E. W. Bullinger (1837-1913) to help you understand the Biblical meanings of numbers. Bullinger not only points out that in Koine Greek not only does JESUS, total 888, but also the below list titles of the Lord:

Lord = 800 (8 x 100 = 800)
Messiah = 656 (8 x 82 = 656)
Christ = 1,480 (8 x 185 = 1,480)
Saviour = 1,408 (8 x 176 = 1,408)
Emmanuel = 25,600 (8 x 3,200 = 25,600)

True Christians reject all forms of esoteric occultism. Dr. J. R. Church's English Gematria is neither mystical nor occultic, but is rather revealed and open.

Dr. Church's English Gematria and the calculator should be used from the standpoint of faith in God and in His Holy Word. This can only be done by looking for findings with Scriptural meanings. Ask yourself, "What is the Scriptural significance of my search?" If there is no Scriptural significance or if the finding is contrary to Scripture then the calculation is of no significance. For example, I have a saved friend whose name totals 666. Does this mean anything? Of course not. This does not mean that Dr. Church's Gematria method is totally ambiguous, but only that the finding is insignificant if it points to anything unscriptural. The volume of amazing Scriptural findings that point to the truth of God's Word is overwhelming. You will find over 300 findings with Scriptural significance on 666 topics like The Mark of The Beast, Mark of The Beast Technology, The New World Order, The Antichrist, The False Prophet, Satan & His Angels, Sin & Wickedness, False Religious, The Occult, and The Final Delusion; and also on 888, 906 and 1110 topics like The Trinity, The Deity of Christ, Salvation, The Bible, and The Church.

God's own Word says, "Here is wisdom: Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." (Revelation 13:18) Please note that the text does not say to try to find out who the Antichrist Beast is, but only to "count the number of the beast."

When taking all these factors into account English Gematria becomes a strong evidence that backs up established Biblical doctrine, and helps us gain insight into Bible interpretations by looking for words and phrases with the same values. We do not believe this evidence is as strong and the prophetic, scientific and historic evidence of the Bible, or the evidence in the hearts and lives of those who have been born again through receiving Christ Jesus through the testimony of God's Word, but it is strong evidence nonetheless.

Again, no where in the Bible does it tell us to try to identify the Antichrist with any numerical system, but it does tell those with "understanding count the number of the beast."

Listen to Revelation 13 to gain understanding as to why we should "count the number of the beast."
